Alaina Mentkow Summer Camp Scholarship Fund

Alaina Rachel Mentkow was born in April 1989 and passed away at the age of 19 in January 2009. She was one of the campers at Phoebe Needles Center for many weeks. After her passing, her parents wanted other young people to have the same great summer camp experience that their daughter had as a camper at Phoebe Needles. To do this, they created the Alaina Mentkow Summer Camp Scholarship Fund. This Fund ensures that all children can have a wonderful summer camp experience at Phoebe Needles.

Alaina’s parents believe that spending a week away from home with friends in a lovely rural setting with challenging activities, a supportive staff, and lots of fun is of great benefit to every young person.

Phoebe Needles Center’s Summer Camp Program is offered at the most affordable price we can reasonably offer. Camp fees are less than half of what it actually costs us to offer these wonderful programs. This Scholarship Fund helps make sure that EVERY YOUNG PERSON can have the opportunity to come to camp if they can’t afford the already greatly reduced camp fees.

The Alaina Mentkow Summer Camp Scholarship Fund is a “need-based” scholarship program that provides assistance to those campers who could not otherwise afford a week of summer camp.

Alaina’s parents are helping us make sure that no child will ever be turned away from attending our wonderful summer camp program due to a lack of funds.

Please consider making a donation to honor the memory of Alaina Mentkow to allow us to continue to offer Summer Camp Scholarships to our community’s youth so that they, too, can have outstanding summer camp experiences.
